So today O2 announces that they have contracted Nokia Siemens Networks to provide their UMTS900 network in the south or England.

But how long is this likely to take to filter out in to rural Kent? Months or like I had previously though 2 or more years?

If 3 years is how long it will take I don't care. I'll simply move back to O2 when my Three mobile contract ends in 23 months. If it is much less than that and coverage is much better (where I need it) then I might be a little annoyed I switched to Three.

I hope O2 release dates for each mast to be upgraded.

Any idea if current phones on the market support UMTS on the 900Mhz frequency?

Not all by any means! The iPhone 4 does.
