Three's 4G in Guildford is still fairly slow ~7-15mbps and limited coverage. I've got some points on rootmetrics, but the majority of the testing I've done in the Guildford area is on EE and Vodafone. The difference is stark...

Same on Three in Farnborough, max speed I saw was 22mbps once, normally about 7mbps on my iPad. I'm told contract customers see higher speeds than PAYG and my iPad is on PAYG. My phone is on EE and I've seen 75mbps. Don't have 4G on work vodaphone yet - due to get that this year.

Did Three tell you that? Last I knew they couldn't control the service like that. You just get whatever is available on that cell.

You might find 3G is faster than 4G now if everyone's phones have connected to the 4G...

Who told you that the network couldn't control the usage on it's network?

Ha ha.

No one... but I believe this is true as there is no clear difference in performance between pay as you go and monthly tariffs.

I've read it from two different people in press positions who have contacts in the mobile networks. That said, its quite likely its wrong. smile

When I was in Leeds with a friend who is a three contract user and me PAYG, there were no statistically significant differences in speeds between the two in any of the areas I tested.

Three's 3G is still significantly faster than Vodafone's 4G. I'll probably create a post with all the graphs once I've translated the hundreds of lines of ms access tables...
