I don't get how someone can use that much

Easy - family of four, fairly normal usage I think with lots of on-line video and I can comfortably exceed 1TB on my FTTC.

Just myself, I can use 250 GB a month easily - hence why I haven't moved to a usage allowance ISP.

plusnet 80/20 (2/jun/14) at 470m - Sync highest was 61/8 now 54/6

Fair comment, and I also guess having 4G of 100Mbps would encourage more usage - faster than FTTC after all.

Still going strong for all? smile
Dammit and botheration!

I have just spent something like ten hours or possible more over today and yesterday trying to connect from my live machine to a WAMP server on my spare laptop, via my otherwise redundant ASUS RT-N66U router. With my phone tethered to the USB Wan-enabled port on the ASUS.

It doesn't quite work the way the googled "answers" say, but I did get it going but not in a really satisfactory way. Then my intended usage idea collapsed ina heap in an instant! (Straight Windows networking was not much of a problem, but the WAMP was).

I expected I could just take my phone away, as the router should still let the two computers that were connected to it communicate.

Wrong frown frown frown. It insists on having an internet connection. Started telling me to plug the modem into the WAN port. Which didn't work either, even with the modem turned on. The point being I can't leave the phone up there plugged in. It defeats the object.

Then I applied brain again. Checked the IP addresses of both computers and the phone when it is acting as a wifi hotspot. The phone sits on 192.168.nnn.1 and the two computers on 192.168.nnn.xxx and 192.168.nnn.yyy. Both showing the phone as the gateway of course.

With what I had gleaned from my 10 hours, within 30 minutes I had easy to operate full control of the WAMP system from my live machine. The server being in the spare room. Phone in hot-spot mode not USB-tethered.

Whilst none of that meant anything to me - the end result was you got it working - well played smile

For reasons I can't even want to start to comprehend - Virgin this month chucked me 400GB rollover data - so that's 600 this month. unbelievable!

WAMPServer is a bundled package for Windows of Apache web server, MySQL and PHP with all the requisite configuration tweaks and linkages that are needed.

Installing the three individually and getting them to cooperate, which I have done two or three times in the past, seems to be rather more complex than in the past. (Or I'm a lot older).

Though WAMPServer itself is easily broken at the installation stage. It needs Visual Studio runtime modules (redistributables) from years back to be installed first, for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows if you have a 64-bit installation. Which is pathetic. If it needs them it should load them itself if they are missing.

It appears that Three are offering Unlimited 4g broadband now. For anyone interested.

http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Devices/Huawei/HomeF...

This also may be a better option for some as i think Three offer static ip's (on request) for data sims.

That's their WiFi router though, and pure data. I'm on £20 for unlimited everything on my phone, which creates a hotspot for my other stuff and travels in my pocket. The original topic of the thread smile.

The £20pm SIM I have is back on sale as well. Until mid-day Monday.

Yeah, i must say it's a little more convenient to have it move around with you, but given the popularity of this particular thread i figured i'd let folks know that a more static option is available, should they want it. Or those who don't want to use their phone as a hotspot or a router that isn't capable of USB tethering. Doesn't mean i won't keep my unlimited phone sim around, it's very convenient to have around laugh
