(H) Network

[link to this post]

When my phone says there is a (H) on the screen the speed seems to be very quick, but the trouble is the signal is very poor on this, when i put it back on EDGE or 3G the signal is much better, why is this and why is the (H) network signal so low, i'm on vodafone and when it is working good i get speeds around 4Mb, is this the fastest you can get, or does o2 etc do it quicker?.

H is HSPDA, High Speed Packet Data Access
At the moment in the UK its the fastest type of 3G Mobile Connectivity (until 4G/LTE come into play)
If the signal is too low then it simply means your too far away from the nearest HSPDA enabled Cell.
You may find that O2 are faster, if they have a closer HSPDA cell, then obviously you will get a better signal.
Although personally i cant reccommend 3 enough for mobile broadband, i get HSPDA almost anywhere with my MiFi!

I normally use my mobile phone to tether up and do it that way, as i do have a 3 USB dongle mobile broadband thing and hardly ever get HSDPA but i do with my phone but only on very low signal, so i use that as the speed on my 3 dongle is so slow but even thought the signal on my phone by the window is only on one or two bars on HSDPA its quite quick, i've put a o2 sim card in the phone and used HSDPA but the signal is still just as bad as on vodafone

Is this using tethering on your galaxy s 2 to access the internet or a dongle?.

This (H) or hspda, works with my samsung galaxy s2 but would it work with all phones that use the internet or does this only work on the more expensive mobile phones?.

Depends on the age of the device.

Firstly, it'll only ever work on a 3G device so any phones that don't support 3G won't work.

HSDPA is an evolution of the original 3G standard so most modern phones should support it.
