Change in Speed Test results

I've used TB's speed tester as a matter of routine for several years, occasionally comparing results with other sites and finding them generally fairly similar.

My ISP has just made major changes to its network. Since then TB has been showing my download speed as only around half what it used to be, with the values fluctuating rather more than usual. However, all the other sites I've looked at show the download speed to have increased, and that accords with what my throughput meter is telling me.

Any idea what has gone wrong?

seeing simlar results my self where speednet give normal but mybroadbandspeed also follows TBB trend, but i monitor latency as well and put the poor results down to VM pushing upstream capacity as latency is getting worse than the normal poor avg on channel 3, where channel 1 and 2 on the upstream are so bad i hard reset to force channel change

I don't seem to be having latency problems. I'm on a small village exchange and for the last two years - since switching to ICUK, for whom I'm very happy to give an unsolicited plug - I've been getting a steady 5-6 Mbps, which is significantly better than most of my neighbours. Since they upgraded their network a couple of days ago TB has been telling me I'm down to 1.5 - 3.5 Mbps: everyone else I've looked at - including Speedtest and Mybroadband - are telling me it's around 6.5. During the test my throughput meter is recording instantaneous speeds of 850 KB/s or more, clearly in line with the higher overall speed.

So as far as I can tell my problem is now specific to ThinkBroadband.

Instantaneous speeds, we dont show a peak, or discard some parts of test, but rather base our final answer on the average speed across the test period.

Seeing the throughput graphs for the two tests can be informative.
