Dual static and dynamic IPs

[link to this post]

Hi,

Nice forum, this is my first post, so please be gentle.

I have a Linksys Wag320N router that I have set to take static IP addresses from my home PC's. However my work laptop is set to dynamic IP addressing.

As a result, can I buy a device so that my Wag320n will accept but types of IP's please?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks
A

Just set the static IP addresses outside of the dynamic IP address range that the router's DHCP server allocates.

So do I enable DHCP and then set Starting IP Address above the set static ones and thats it?

These are the options.

DHCP Server: Enable Disable DHCP Relay

DHCP Relay Server IP: . . .
Starting IP Address:
Maximum Number of DHCP Users:
Client Lease Time:
Static DNS 1: . . .
Static DNS 2: . . .
Static DNS 3: . . .
WINS:

Also there is a DHCP reservation buttion.

Please help

Thanks

Yes - in theory.

Is part of the puzzle that the ISP is also providing you a block public static IP addresses, and the WAG is effectively running in NON-NAT mode

Should be ok.

Everything can use the same subnet and gateway but, as suggested, you can just the start and finish of the DHCP range (aka scope) so that nothing else is given the static (manual) IPs you have already set.

How many devices do you already have on manual IPs?
DHCP Reservations can be another way to achieve the same results, but
as it's a table linking MAC addresses to IP addresses so say for 10 devices you can just:

specify the 10 IPs in one place
- rather than -
on different devices setting IP, subnet, gateway, DNS, (WINS, MTU, NTP ... there are plenty of settings that can be given out automatically)

prompt $P - Invalid drive specification - Abort, Retry, Fail? $G
