Cat5e cable couplers

[link to this post]

Future building work in my home may mean that my home network patch panel will need to be permanently moved a metre or so from it's current position. When originally installing the cables I did leave a few metres of excess cable to allow for such contingencies but it's now looking likely that 8 of the 14 cat5e cables will be too short to reach the patch panel once the building work is done and so I was wondering if I could use some of these to extend the length of the cable without affecting network performance?

Also, is there such a thing as a multi-gang punch-down lan cable coupler (which would be less faff and neater)?

Are there any other options for extending a cat5e cable length?

Replacing the too-short cables isn't a realistic option due to cost and hassle.

There is http://www.ashcomms.com/products/audio-visual/home-n...

and they were working on a double that will join to cables, or were in 2012. Its a case of finding a retail outlet

Depending on space and cable length what about a coupler patch panel? Numerous hits on google coupler patch panel

terminating them with M plugs and using F-F couplers

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

Plugs on Infrastructure Cat5e - that is very bad practice.

Your solution would work - I have a few here and still get Gbit capability. But your will need one for each cable which could be bulky.

You could use: http://www.network-cabling.co.uk/store/product_info.... which will do for 7 cables - when fully fitted with 3 10 pair (20 way) punch down strips. Or
http://www.network-cabling.co.uk/store/product_info.... 5 strips - 16 cables

true, junction boxes aren't great either.

But junction boxes have IDCs which are designed for Infrastructure cable and with careful management of cables and minimal untwisting 10 pair Krone strips are ideal.
