Belkin dropping off BT

[link to this post]

Hi,

After my BT router died I have bought a Belkin AC1200 Modem Router - I have connected it and it initially worked - for 30 secs then dropped, then reconnected etc.

After ringing BT they checked the line and told me that my line had done this 500 times + in 24 hrs! As usual they also say the line from their end is fine

Then I range Belkin who tell me to change it from PPPoE to PPPoA - The Belkin although have this as a choice simply will not take it. It will not connect at all using this.

AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE??

Belkin blame BT and vice versa - meanwhile my business is down.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Is this with an ADSL2+ based service?

Someone on a fibre service had issues with the PPPoE, so maybe a bug in the Belkin.

What are the ADSL connection stats assuming its an ADSL2+ service, i.e. connection speed, attenuation and noise margin.

Someone else had this issue. Belkin says it's a bug.

Go back to them, hopefully you will speak to someone who knows about it.

Those look ok, if the noise margin drops much below 6dB then the drops may be down to the line and noise and how the modem handles it.

Have you checked for any firmware updates for the router?

Have you asked BT for a replacement?

I did ask but as I was out of contract they refused bless them .
I have since bought a new TP Link router and eventually got it going using a PPPoA.
I did have a funny moment though with their technical line after checking everything and it saying it was connected but still not able to access internet etc she came up with the best 2 suggestions ever given.
How about changing my computer!! And then try turning it off for 10 mins! Have a cup of tea and the see if it works

Amazing

Thanks for the help

Which BT service are you on? Certainly for businesses, I have seen them send out new routers or hubs irrespective of contractual position.

They would normally replace a router freely provided you enter another contract but sometimes it's done regardless. Shame they didn't help you on this occasion.
