Patch panel placement

[link to this post]

Due to conversion of half my garage, the patch panel therein needs to move to make way for stud wall (why I didn't place the panel in the "right" place from the start I'll never know), but doing so will place the patch panel just under the fuse board for the house. I know network cables can be affected by interference from electrical cables so I'm wondering if placing the patch panel and network switch close to the fuse board will cause issues?

Potentially ... The MCBs, RCDs, RCBOs all produce small amount of noise and with all the cable borne noise from everything in the house, it is not really the best place.

Yes, Ethernet is reasonably immune but why do the work to take a chance?

I've not really got any choice, but I'll keep the distance between patch panel and fuseboard as great as possible. I'm guessing any stray EM interference wouldn't travel very far?

I imagine a metal cabinet would help. Is it metal?

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that.

If I can't move the panel without cutting the existing cables, I'm planning to reterminate the cables with these screened jacks and plug them into one of these patch panels which comes with an earthing kit.
