How to set up adhoc local network

[link to this post]

Don't know if anyone can help on this.

I run a sports club that operates in a local school's halls.

All our admin processes run on a PHP/MySQL system.

The school won't let us access our system via their network, and we have terrible phone connectivity where the school is..

I am thinking an option might be to use my laptop (which has WAMPServer on it), and possibly take a spare router and use that to serve the pages to the 3 tablets that are used (1 iPad and 2 Android).
Is this possible, and if so how do I set it all up to allow the laptops to reach my laptops "localhost"?

Thanks for any help

Yes, a router would do the job and provide wifi and wired connectivity.

As long as all the devices are in the same IP subnet then they can access the server but it won't be called "localhost" as that is only within the box. You could access it either via the IP address (eg http://192.168.0.1/app.html) or you could setup a DNS server on your WAMP box to give it a nice name (eg http://mysports/app.html).

Thanks for the reply - your advice about the DNS server was what I needed to know.

I'll set up a trial this weekend.
