Thinking of moving to namesco please advise

[link to this post]

Just wondering do namesco throttle or have a traffic management policy also what are the speeds like in the evenings do they drop considerably after 6pm when a lot of users are online? I'm considering getting platinum plus.

Hi,

Sure that NameCo Staff will reply to you too in here, but there is no throttling or traffic management policies.

The speeds I get in the evening are between 5-6MB but i'm not too far from my exchange and my exchange is not currently overloaded. It does depend how congested your exchange is etc . I've not experienced any slowdowns in the evening and have been with NamesCo for a few years now and have never looked back. Only one outage so far and that was when someone decided to drill through a main BT comms tunnel... smile

Hope this helps smile

You'll regret it. I've had nothing but trouble with them for the past 6 months.

That and their support has become degraded since they moved it to Bombay.

Everything was perfect up until 6 months ago, with knowledgeable staff based
in Worcester. All gone downhill since.

They don't throttle, or don't appear to. My speed (on the rare occasions when
my ADSL is working) is a constant 6000 bps average day and night, which is
the best I can expect from my particular line

As for data cap, I have a 64 GB cap so I can't say how strict they are in this
respect as I seldom if ever get anywhere near 64 GB in a month.

Agree totally with cheemag except that namesco's tech support is now based in Hyderabad not Bombay (but who's counting !). Nice people but followers of on screen scripts, no ability at all to be refered to a 2nd tier techie and any call put into customer services in the UK in desperation is a complete waste of time.

Have been with Namesco for quite sometime, way back to when it had its original entrepreneurial owners. They sold out a while ago to some Italian outfit (half their directors now seem to be Italians) and for about the last 6 months we have been blighted with relatively 2nd class support from India. Namesco still have on their website that the tech support is 'UK based' - simple straight forward misleading statement IMO.

Even Plusnet, owned by BT (I think) have cottoned on to this one and use a UK call centre.

Namesco used to be absolutely brilliant, just like Pipex was in the beginning, now to big for their own boots and seem to have forgotton who their customers are - ah yes, the supply of broadbad services now appears to be a marginalised activity.

Namesco are still probably better than some ISP's but not what they once were for BB and I would think carefully before chucking my lot in with them - there are much better ISP's out there IMO.

Well I be migrating ? - YES and probably to ZEN

Hi,

I just had a bad experience with Namesco tech support after more than 4 years with Namesco.

I found myself in a similar situation to yourself, trapped in outsourced-call-center-script hell for days on end (well, perhaps limbo rather than hell - as you say, they're not unpleasant, but it can feel like it's taking a long time and you're not really going anywhere).

In my opinion, I felt the tech support service was disappointly slow, and I was left with an impression that they were unprepared to deal with anything more than trivial problems.

I migrated to Zen.

After a hiccup on the first day or two, Zen tech support swung into action and very quickly resolved the pre-migration problem. Actually, the total time during which the problem was resolved with Zen (with about 10-12 emails and 5-6 phone calls involved in a very tricky fault diagnosis over several days!), was the same as the time to make first contact with an engineer on namesco. The Zen techie that resolved the problem was extremely communicative and helpful - a joy to deal with (I say this as a former tier 2/3 techie myself).

Now, I have the same sync speed. But, I think the internet connection with Zen is faster overall in terms of download/upload speeds, particularly in the evenings. Price with Zen is actually about the same as what I was paying before with Namesco.

It's sad when a company you've been loyal to for a long time, decides to be less loyal to you...

Yeah tech support has been rubbish since they moved it.

Been on Xilo for a few months now and they have been excellent.
