DNS Question

[link to this post]

Trying to troubleshoot the Newnet connection of a relative of mine and have a 2 quick questions please as regards the DNS Servers.

1. The ones used by my relative are

Primary: 212.87.64.7
Secondary: 212.87.64.10

2. Are these DNS servers fine or are users having issues with them. I guess since I could find no other posts raising the DNS servers as troublesome, I suspect that these are ok.

Cheers

Kitz's site list some DNS servers of ISPs.

http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/dns.htm

The ones listed are:

212.87.64.10
212.87.64.11

What you can do is create a dos batch file with a list of DNS IPs and see which ones are most responsive and then change to suit. Here's an example of one:

Text
1
23
45
6
@ echo off
 ping 212.159.13.49 -n 10
ping 212.159.13.50 -n 10ping 212.159.6.9 -n 10
ping 212.159.6.10 -n 10

You can add in the IPs for the Newnet servers and maybe some 3rd party ones, such as openDNS. Paste to notepad and save as a .bat file, then run from dos.

~~~~~~~~~~
Message to the mods:
Don't you hate it that you can't disable sigs? Ha Ha!
IIRC 10 and 11 were the default DNS some time ago. There was a problem with one of them crashing and, after the fix, 7 and 10 became the defaults.
7 and 10 are the ones that my router always picks up anyway, and I haven't noticed any recent problems.
Hmm just came home this evening. Looked like NewNet's DNS were playing up. I could ping by ip but not by name. Did anyone else have any problems? I reconnected my router and it seemed to fix it.
DNS servers are picked by my router as:
212.87.64.7
212.87.64.10
Hmm...
I've had some undiagnosed temporary blips over this week or two.
nothing longer than a couple of minuets, just long enough to check that my router is still synced. I've taken to putting the kettle on.
fixes it every time.....
