Nildram traffic management policy change

[link to this post]

As part of our dedication to providing our customers with the best possible online experience, over the past few months we have been testing a new form of traffic management on parts of our customer base. During this time we have been closely monitoring our customers
The above post has been made by an ISP REPRESENTATIVE (although not necessarily the ISP being discussed in the post).

ian, how can the traffic management have had positive reactions if we weren't actually told we were being shaped? i'm finding it hard to believe that anyone has said "hmmm, i quite like being shaped, keep up the good work."

how is slowing anyones internet connection down ever going to get a positive reaction?

i think that statement is ficticious.

That one is easy.

You don't get a positive reaction from the person trying to run his line at full speed 24/7/365 but you do get a positive reaction from everyone else affected by that behaviour when you slow him down.

As ever, this sort of management is about ensuring that you keep the majority of customers happy for the majority of the time, you can't keep everyone happy all the time.

no, i don't think that is the case.

If i remember correctly, last time the traffic shaping fiasco took place it wasn't just heavy downloaders who were unhappy, because people want to download their stuff at full speed at whatever time of the day, even light users will agree with that.

ah well mark, this should give you the push you need to sign up with Be. I know where i'd be going if they were at my exchange.

Then again i'm a heavy downloader so no ISP really wants me there.

You don't need to try and claim 'change of contract' to get a MAC out of Nildram without a penalty as pretty much all the contracts only have a 30 day notice period anyway.

Wouldn't be easy anyway as the contract already includes the right to manage traffic.
