Not-spot & slow -spots map

[link to this post]
Hi,

I live in Elstree and having looked at you coverage map it shows a big blue circle of "slow spot", yet on the BT Broadband Checker it says:

"Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your address indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line rate up to 2Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 4.5Mbps or greater.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL2+ broadband line rate of 6Mbps or greater."

My question is which is more accurate?

Will I be ok to go ahead with O2 broadband (based on the BTBroadband checker giving a good responce) and get a reasonable connection or is the slow-spot map accurate and I wont get a very good speed?

Thanks,
Ben

Have a look at this map too - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/mapping/mapping.php
It and the BT checker result should match up. (well fairly close)

The dot on the not-spot map could be someone who is complaining of slow speeds but this could be down to shoddy internal wiring adding noise to the line.

What does the O2 checker say?

Cheers for the speedy replies guys.

That map is handy, thanks bookey, it says that for my house number & postcode: "ADSL2+ available at ~5Mbps for O2 broadband"

I guess thats a good sign that I'll recieve a good connection (or at least better than the <2Mbps shown on the slow-spot map?)

I havent checked the O2 checker, couldn'd find it on the website or via google.....Got a link?

Cheers,
Ben

hi,

One thing that also may skew the results are people who haven't bothered to get off fixed speed ADSL services...

I have met a few that still have fixed "512kbps" services as they signed up for them ages ago and never changed.. bizarre but true..

That problem should go when BTO phase out the IP Stream services.
(Hopefully)
