Anyone got any good info on the roll out of South Yorkshire's Digital Region FTTC project? I see a lot of digging near Thales Doncaster offices and at various locations around the borough but the website's painfully low on detailed information.

Hi,
I heard about this Project and this seems to be like, providing Fibre cabelling to each telephone cabinet with VDSL technology involve.
Which will greatly improve the capacity of network for faster Broadband.
Thanks!!

That's certainly how it reads, which is a disappointment as I was hoping for FTTK. It's also touted as an open network with service being provided by any ISP which, if it works, is a model I'd like to see applied to a more separated Openreach. It just seems a lost opportunity if they're doing all that digging to not keep going up and down all the streets.
I just have this gnawing doubt that the money will run out before they get to my street cab.

The project delivered FTTC, not K I'm afraid.
It is an "open" network and ISPs can buy into it in much the same way as BTW offer WMBC/IPCentrals. Unfortunately the supply model has yet to be defined, although I am aware the large S. Yorks based ISP is keen to get their claws in.
It is not VDSL delivery, but ADSL2+(M)

That'll be Plusnet then. Personally I hope BT buy in because I get my broadband for nowt from them and don't really want to start paying for it but do want the speed.

There won't be anyone offering anything for nothing over it. It has to pay for itself. Although publically funded, as far as I can see it will be run as a commercial entity. Certainly when we opened discussions, the buy in cost was horrendous, although I believe that has now changed somewhat.

The reason I get my BB for nowt is I work for the devil. I just doubt we'll see fit to use a third party backhaul network.

Hi,
This project is done for providing faster speed and this is facilitating many people too, so, according to me this ahould be the great venture.
I am looking forward to this.
Thanks!!

It's VDSL which is why it's cabinet based, CO based VDSL not being permitted by the ANFP. Check the information on the network again.
As we age so our youthful arrogance is naturally replaced by pragmatism, that is experience at work. Why then does that pragmatism get replaced by ignorance in so many?

All the present trial cabinets are being built with ADSL2+(M) DSlams as there is still an on-going argement about x-talk on the ANFP for "other digital services" from the street cab...
