Am I in a Slow Spot or is it my ISP

[link to this post]

My download speeds are 0.5MBps and upload 0.4MBps. on last two speed tests
Is this a poor result and are we in a 'slow spot' as others on the locality map register as much as 5MBps?

I dont understand how you get your overall speed from the download and upload speed to compare with people on our locality map.

Can anyone tell me what speed we are compared with the MB speeds ISP's offer.

Sorry to sound so ignorant - thanks in anticipation of any help.

Which ISP ? Which telephone exchange ( see samknows.com )

Run the speedtest at speedtester.bt.com and post the results here

Check your downstream attenuation, sync speed and SNR margin on your router and post here - see http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/linestats.htm

Thanks for reply Yarwell,
My ISP is Demon and telephone exchange Felixstowe.
I phoned Demon Technical this afternoon and they tested the line and told me it was good and capable of 4MBpm download. They agreed the present download is poor at 0.5 MBpm and advised me that they would 'refresh the line' whatever that means.

I had to turn off the router whilst this was performed and then carry out a further speedtest - low and behold it is now 2.6MBpm.

I have recently sent various emails to Demon Support complaining about the previous speed so why they couldn't have suggested this in the first place is beyond me.

However if any reader is having problems then perhaps you could suggest your
'line is refreshed'!

sounds like BS but I have found on my Demon line that when it is performing badly a reconnection can fix it, presumably by bumping me onto a less congested pipe.
