very much a not spot

[link to this post]

I am in Ash, Surrey GU12 5HF, but for a number of years I know that most of my neighbours are on Virgin. The cable is on the other side of the road. I have contacted them many times without success.

My current Sky broadband is 2.5 Mbps and a fair distance from the exchange.

Virgin refused to connect me due to the cost of the digging...unless i go for XL packages for a number of years. This offer has since been withdrawn.

So - ok - infinity are comming (estimated speed 36 mbps- I signed up for a new line (yes well I wanted one anyhow) - and getting new BB until infinity arrives in July 2011.

Thats good - I thought .....then I heard the BT Openreach engineers back from the cabinet - and said that the woman by the old cabinet have objected to the new dslam. So, stopping BT openreach to installing infinity to the immediate area.

So - I am stuck - no Virgin or no infinity - and a new line signed up for 18 mths !

(I cant get freeview here either) - Grr -

Time to move I think

Not sure how one person can prevent an area's access to BB. See your MP / councillor.

If a conservation area planning permission needed for any street cabs

Also people can object to cabinets in other areas - generally BT will attempt to re-site

Might be a trespass issue, a single owner could justifiably complain if a cabinet or services/access is taken over their property without permission. Most people would be very sensitive about that and highway boundaries are usually poorly delineated!

Oh Joy! think of some of us stuck on less than 2mb with no prospect of better for the foreseeable future.

Some people dont know they are born, wish i could have got and maintained 1/3 of that speed the last 11 years. Many of those years stuck below 1/2meg.
5.6km from CMTET running aluminium cable = 75db attn
Could even tell if it was raining or had rained. 100's drop outs a day.

Because i am in a bad area which are being done first i am now off one of the local 7 FTTC approx 200 yards away. Now i can watch a youtube vid in lowest resolution without waiting 6 mins to view a 1 min screening.
