Poor Speeds

[link to this post]

I live in Shinfield near Reading and the Broadband speed is a farce. BT will do nothing to improve it as it hovers around 2MEG but is usually less than that. I believe we have just had an upgrade to ASDL2 so our uplink speeds are fractionally better. but generally the whole package is rubbish. and BT will do nothing about it. I would go to another provider but they would still need to use BT Wholesale so I am stuck with this rubbish provider. Any thoughts to what I can do?

First case is to assess whether you are getting around the right speed for the attenuation of the line.

The connection speed, attenuation and noise margin figures can be grabbed from your ADSL modem and then use http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/calc/calculator.php to assess whether the figures lie in the expected range.

if they do not, then come back and people can advise things to check.

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/THSPD or a different exchange ?

A pub in Shinfield has FTTC available and the exchange has Sky & Talk Talk LLU

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

Not so, there's LLU providers with a presence in your exchange.

Where exactly are you ? If you are by the Bell and Bottle, then you have FTTC available for many months now, you'll be off cab 1 by the roundabout.
