Dialup being cut off.

[link to this post]

A couple of hundred homes and a shopping centre near me in Dudley are too far away from the exchange to get ADSL, some have ISDN but many only still have dialup which is to be shut off next week. Virgin Media is an option for some, but not the shopping centre. BT are installing Infinity, but it has already been delayed from May to September, and now December. Oh what a mess!

Good news, BT have sent everyone Mi-Fi devices. Panic over, except they only connect a limited amount of devices.

Anywhere else in the UK have the same problem?

I find it amazing you can be in the middle of the West Midlands and get zero broadband. I only get 2Mb and 1 mile from the exchange. CMSED exchange is truly terrible. :-/

You are aware you can still get dialup from other providers still?

On the mifi limited, how do you connectvto the old v90 these days?

BT suggested that dialup customers should use Plusnet:

How do you sign up for dial-up? The 'Dial-up' link just takes you to Business Broadband .

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC

Virgin Media is an option for some, but not the shopping centre.
The shopping centre can have as much connectivity as it is prepared to pay for, if that's "none" then we know who made that decision.

Several infrastructure companies would be prepared to supply fibre lines, point to point wireless etc.

Aol had 3.5 million dialup subscribers end of 2012. Dialup is still alive smile

511 million revenue not bad for an Internet dinosaur that refuses to be extinct

AOL America I presume, got a number for AOL dialup customers in UK?

AOL Broadband arm is owned and run by TalkTalk in the UK too.

Yes 0808 994 4002 still works.

Can no longer sign up to it via http://info.aol.co.uk/products/anytimeAffs.adp - only access for current customers.
