RG30 3ST - Very Slow Broadband!

[link to this post]

At the end of Reading Central Exchange, the speed is very slow. Rang BT to find out when our green cabinet would get upgraded for Infinity, no one wanted to give any useful information apart from the official rubbish. Does anyone know if there is a hope for me - even government's promise of minimum 2 mb/s would be quite good?

The normal BT numbers will have no idea as the roll out is by Openreach.

It may be you have to check what the County council is doing with its bduk contract

Email Openreach and include your phone number and address, they will say if your cabinet is part of the commerical deployment or will be left to the Berkshire BDUK project.

nga.enquiries@openreach.co.uk

This email will put you in contact with the Superfast Berkshire project but they may not be able to help as the contact is only just being finalised, surveying by Openreach has yet to begin so their are no deployment plans yet.

ProjectTeam@superfastberkshire.org.uk

As for the 2 mb/s min, work will not being until 2015 before the project ends.

CAB 66, by The Cunning Man pub, not good at all [sad]. There are plenty of long D-sides off that cab for whom VDSL would offer no benefit.

D-side is the copper cable from the cabinet to the home. Long cables aren't good for DSL.

And to add insult to injury, the E-sides are already 4k+ to the cabinet.

Out of curiosity, nothing more, can you say roughly how many lines are fed from that cabinet?

PCP 66 covers the following postcodes:-

RG3 3XN
RG303RB
RG303RD
RG303RE
RG303ST
RG303SU
RG303SX
RG303TA
RG303UG
RG303UH
RG303UJ
RG303UL
RG303UN
RG303UW
RG303XA
RG303XB
RG303XD
RG303XH
RG303XJ
RG303XL
RG303XN = 60%
RG303XT
RG7 4AJ = 10.52%

I can't be bothered to look up how many addresses that is but you can if you want.

Taken from leaked April 2011 spreadsheed, at the time this cabinet was unplanned and it is still not planned.

Due to the spread of properties many will not get good speeds or even any service over FTTC which may be the reason it in not planned.

Probably need to get together with locals and do something a bit like B4RN.
