2wire BT2700HGV Stats/Opinions?

[link to this post]

As recommended by a few people on here, I have purchased a 2wire 2700 HGV via ebay, to replace my BT Home Hub 3.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the stats - showing before and after.

Hopefully the speed will increase further over a week or so.

The recorded line length is 4614m
(at least 800m to cabinet, then the rest is to the Exchange).

Telephone Number X on Exchange PRIORY is served by Cabinet 18

I got that sort of attenuation and performance on a 6.1km line.

Most of the time my sync speed was lower, I assume because of cross talk.

Attenuation is probably about right on the 2700 and speed maybe a little low although it is 200k (10% better than before). That can easily be down to high ambient noise levels including cross talk.

The stats look pretty good. If the line is stable - get router stats lite and run it for a few days to monitor SNR/Margin and sync speed, you will see the SNR vary during the days but the same pattern every day. Once it has settled and the DSLAM happy, there is a good chance teh SNR/Margin will drop to 3dB with teh extra speed that can offer.

Also, time a reboot for about 60 minutes after dawn ... from experience that seems to give the optimum margin that will not resync overnight - the 2700 can work with SNRs down towards zero.

Cheers both

I'll have a look at router stats lite

Ta. I've downloaded it, will see how things pan out.

I notice the SNR drops whilst I'm using the phone. It drops from 5 dB to 4 dB when I have a dial tone / make an outbound call.

I tried calling the line from a mobile, with no phones plugged in, and I lost the broadband connection.

Rebooting the router hasn't resolved the issue, hopefully it'll come back to life soon!

NB. The master socket is a new-style Open Reach one - with the filter built in and a socket for the phone and the ADSL.

Quite normal to see a small change in SNR when a call is in progress and I would not worry about 1 dB.

A bit odd loosing connection with an incoming call though!

The broadband came back after 15 mins. Reboot didn't seem to help.

I tried it again, this time with the phone plugged in, and the connection dropped again. Still not back 40mins later. Shouldn't have tried again!

I'll have to plug the ADSL into the test socket tomorrow to isolate the internal wiring and filtered face plate.

Edit: looks like it will be back soon. DSL connected. DNS not resolving yet.

Download sync seems to have increased overnight and noise margin has gone down to 2 dB.

Haven't done a post-dawn reboot yet. Wasn't running routerstat lite overnight either so not sure when the sync speed increased.

I've tried using the test socket (with a plugin filter) and just the ADSL connected - ADSL still disconnects when calling the line.

So that rules out the filtered face plate, plus it rules out the DECT phones (as the ADSL drops even if no phones are plugged in).

The only thing left to do is plug my BT Home Hub back in and see if the line drops for that too.

I've found the quickest way to establish a DSL connection, after it fails, is to connect a phone and make an outbound call.

Whilst connected via the test socket, I got 3,003 Kbps down (currently 2,816 Kbps after the disconnect) and a noise margin of 3.1 dB (now 2 dB). Up hasn't changed much.

So I might be dropping around 0.4 Mbps with the internal extensions - I'll probably remove them before connecting the filtered face plate back up.
