ie £1 extra on that £10 you topped-up with to claim your 3 * £4.89 discounts
ie get £11 phone credit for paying £10 to save £14.67 home BB payment = win:win:win.

AND remember you would benefit from being on ONE of the bolt-on packages that once you have made a £10 top-up (eg a quarter) it will give you ONE month's benefit:
http://www.o2.co.uk/explore/tariffs/paygo
Remember an o2 PAYG SIM does NOT require you to make any top-up, just to keep it active by meeting their T&C's but people DO get confused into thinking they'd HAVE to pay £10 a MONTH (helped by the less than 100% clear website presentation) - you do NOT - just make or receive ONE chargeable call every 6 months!
The salient T&C is: "If you do not make or receive a chargeable call at least once in any 6 month period your Mobile Phone will be disconnected and you will lose any remaining credits balance on your Account. " So if you have a PAYG you don't use except for saving money with the o2 home broadband discount it's worth making a note of that 6m period - though I'd hope they gave you SOME warning pre disconnection/credit-loss.
And finally while reminding you how to save money with o2 : the o2 mobile phone # associated with your o2 home broadband a/c...
a) does NOT need to be in your name/address just AVAILABLE to you : ie used with the owner's permission; and the 5 digit validation number sent to the phone needs to be accessible so you can either input it (when signing up in the first place) or read back to the o2 Billing person when you add/update the # at at later stage (as you can't change it online)
b) the # used to claim discount can be changed at any time by calling them up on the 0800 number and pressing through to the Billing section and giving them the new number (and reading them back the 5 digit valiation code that will come through to it)
