Maybe it can't handle the amount of traffic it's taking and falling over till someone reboots.

There's some interesting background to expected mail parameters somewhere on the Be website (where they offer eMail service as an extra cost option). From memory it's things like "you may not address an email to more than 1000 recipients" and such like!

For some reason, Be* have stopped offering the the email "addon" ....

Hi johnon,

I do wish Be would stop faffing around with their product offering/T&Cs and would keep all their FAQs etc up to date - last month we found FAQs explicitly saying you had to have MAC to sign up whereas someone signing up proved by their actions you didnt. And last month they were playing around with their Static IP packages! Will update my comparison doc in due course smile

Did make me notice that Be customers have to just suffer price increases whereas o2 themselves initiating a price rise is grounds to opt out!

Anyway bottom line reminder is when signing up to any contract read it!

I sent and received emails via O2 SMTP/POP at 18:01, 18:03 and 18:07. Different servers maybe?

To be honest, I was a bit miffed about the email. Although it no longer specifically states that you do get email on their product sign-up pages, reading through the T&C implies that you do.

And, as soon as I was given access to my Member Centre, there's the option to buy the email addon - I haven't tried it because I don't actually need it but, apparently it should no longer be there... whether it still works, I don't know.

Not only that, the welcome pack also gives details - "If you use an email program to access your email account, your [sic] will need to set your outgoing SMTP server to ..."

The ISP email account is always handy as a backup - I usually give it to my email hoster as a way of contacting them if their own email goes down. As it is, I've resorted to gmail but I'm never too relaxed about letting google handle my email!

John.

I suspect the SMTP server smtp1.bethere.co.uk will be around for O2 and Be customers to use indefinitely.

Oliver.
