Not impressed with O2

[link to this post]

I migrated to o2 from entanet few weeks ago.

Download speed was very good(and still is) but browsing was slow so I changed my DNS to OpenDNS. That helped but it still feels like half the time a lot of web is down or slow.

Right now, Youtube is down for me, is it for you?

Also, often pages will never quite fully load.

If using the O2 supplied router you could try setting it to factory default. I had problems with mine when I first joined, one of the symptoms was a ridiculously low rwin setting reported from this site.

http://www.speedguide.net/sg_tools.php (tcp/ip analyser)
Need to be running from a win xp machine to demonstrate this, vista and win7 does thing differently.

O2 Box or 3rd party router?
How have you changed DNS - by setting on PC or changes to router config?
What O/S are you using?

I've had a persistent problem with latency on my O2 broadband connection - not managed to get it below 130ms despite numerous calls to tech support. I've given up now and am just waiting for my contract to end.

It's the usual story, technical support turn around and say download rates are fine and therefore the connection is performing as it should - clearly this is incorrect, but they refuse to take appropriate action.

I've started document my O2 saga - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDWFyXz7MX4 - as the situation has got far worse lately.

If you believe that o2 are letting you down and you are still within your first 30 days of service remember you can bale without any comeback (and get any money back too, not that you should be paying them for 2 more months) and look for greener grass elsewhere!

Can you post some line stats from your router, and give an idea of what action you feel is appropriate?

Sure, no problem - each of these stats have been relayed to tech support on numerous occassions within the last 6 months.

Line stats as of today:

Downstream: 3776
Upstream: 448
Noise Down: 12.4
Noise Up: 15

Latency according to www.speedtest.net 181ms with no other computers switched on or connected to the router.

All traceroutes confirm that the problem is at the exchange.

Despite that downstream current download rates are in the region of 0.5mbit, and have been for the past 3-4 weeks.
