line noise

[link to this post]

Hi.
I have line noise on the quiet line test which seems to disappear when I switch the router off (O2 box ) I switched to my netgear and have the same problem with different router, cable and filter. Noise is present when equipment is on but not when switched off with either O2 box or netgear router. Should I just report it as a voice fault or get onto O2. My routerstats graph is all over the place with dramatic peaks from the noise.
thanks

Yes i would report it as a voice fault, i had a simler problem a few years back when i first joined o2, turn out to be a break in the line in one of the street boxes.

Just make sure you get a decent person sent to you, bt guy who came here was an [censored] i almost told him to GTFO, i had just had a new phone line and box fitted before i got the noise on the line, and the bt guy insisted the fault was in this room, after 30 mins of arguing he finaly went down the road where he found the problrm. think he was just trying to make me pay for no reason but dosent work with me.

Thanks. I have no other phone sockets or extensions in the house either, just one master where I am plugged into test socket.

Disagree
Need to be reported to O2 as a broadband fault if the noise is only present with a router connected.
If reported as a voice fault, you well get a voice engineer likely not trained in broadband faults and likely end up with a hefty charge
Is the noise present when connected to the test socket?

In that case get onto O2 and report that you are connected to the test socket and hear noise on the line with router connected and you have tried different routers
Commonly this is a tie pair issue at the exchange, but could also be a line fault

Also, make sure you are using an analogue corded phone as a cordless DECT phone will likely amplify quietest of noise on the voice side

I have the same issue and have so far tried 3 different routers. Yet to get it fixed, as I need to perform more in depth testing for BE

Thanks for the advice. Phone is analogue type with filter straight into test socket. problem seemed to occur last night some time as usually only have the occasional dropout and routerstats graph is normally ok, but now it looks like a mountain range. Have netgear plugged in a moment and has been on for over 2 hours but with downstream reduced by half as it has been since start of problem. I expect it will get worse as night draws in. Tried ADSL2 mode through router CLI but that seems no better. Considered it may be water getting into the cables also but it has been a lot damper than it is now over the last few months and no problems until now.
I'll observe it for the rest of the day and hit O2 with it tomorrow.

As the night has gone on and the signal degrades, I can now actually hear the noise on the line when the router is disconnected. Is it still best to ring O2 first or go straight for the report of voice fault? Maybe O2 will suggest this after my initial call?

Do you still hear the noise on the quiet line test with just a phone plugged into the test socket WITHOUT a filter? If yes, report to BT as a voice fault. Don't mention broadband and stress the problem is intermittent and is worse after dark

If it were me, I'd get hold of a cheap corded analogue phone from Argos though first and test with that

I can still hear noise on quiet line test without filter with phone into test socket. That phone is analogue, but I also have a spare one that I could try as well. I think it is the line somewhere as all was ok up till last night. Maybe there's water in the joints someplace?

That is definetly a voice issue. As previously stated, call BT and state there is noise when making calls and it is intermittent and seems to be after heavy rain last week.

Be nice to the engineer. Coffee, biscuits, etc and he might fit a filtered faceplate FOC as my engineer did.

Was Eclipse Home Option 1 & VM 2Mb
Now O2 standard
