O2 FTTC

[link to this post]

The last I heard was this http://blog.o2.co.uk/home/2011/06/o2s-head-of-home-b...

Has anyone heard anything more recent? It seems quite a few exchanges are FTTCing this year (including my own this spring)...and I want to be part of it, but I don't fancy joining Sky or BT. (O2 fanboy here!).

Well, both BT and Sky have upgraded their networks with extra capacity to cope, so if those two are the choices... Anyway, I went with BT as Sky isn't yet available. Check this out http://www.speedtest.net/result/1751100585.png

Looks beautiful smile but that package would be £50 for me (anytime calls + unlimited downloads), while it's only £26 on O2. Even the 40Mbps would be £40. I guess I'll have to sit tight and see what O2 come up with.

Probably better to see what BE are up to, since they are the network that O2 use. They currently have a trial going that O2 will also refer to if you speak to them. I'm sure they are well aware that customers are leaving for BT and will be for Sky, so it can only be a matter of time before they get FTTC up and running. The BT and Sky options both look fine, but there is no static IP option for either and Sky's upload speed will be no better than ADSL2+.

My only slight concern is O2's latest offering of the new ADSL2+ router to customers who have been with them for several years. It seems a little strange considering a large number of them will need new routers again when they get FTTC - Unless of course they have secretly put VDSL2 support in the new wireless box. I hope they have their priorities right!

I agree these new routers are a bad sign.

My latest O2 contract ends in May 2012 and I am currently thinking of a move to Virgin Broadband for the faster speed.

I would love to have FTTC with O2 or Be but I will not wait any longer than May 2012.
