Do I really NEED the installation cd to set up new Box V ?

[link to this post]

Mine was delivered today by Yodel. Id rather not use the installation cd that came with it if I can avoid it. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525and Im not even sure if the wireless card is G or N type.

Can I simply connect up to the router, type my pc IP address into the search bar and enter the wireless and ethernet information that way. Not sure about the Superuser stuff either.

Is there a link anywhere that makes the set up of box V a breeze if you dont want to use the installation CD ? Thanks in advance for any help, the stuff I found online wasnt much help.

Happy anywhere, as long as it ISNT talk talk.

Just plug in and go

You don't need to use the CD

SuperUser password is the serial number and wireless prehared key should also be the serial number

The last O2 connection I set up for someone had a totally different Wireless key from the serial number. Have things changed? It was some time ago.

Could have been older firmware or preshared key could have been changed at some stage, but seem to remember default being the serial number
Possible it's different for O2

O2 Guru's would know wink ( hint to OP )

The wireless key is different to the serial number. Said key is on the credit card type card which comes with it.- much better than having to look at the base of the router

I dont get it, on my box II my user name is Administrator............who is SuperUser ?

If I power up box V ,am I right in thinking I just type in my default gateway into a search page to get the o2 screen where I enter the details required to online with box V ?

still havent the foggiest who SuperUser is.

Administrator is all you need for normal usage.

The main reason for using SuperUser is if you want to see the detailed line stats. In terms of functionality and control, no need so far as I can remember. There's probably a few other things you can mess with.

If you decide to use SuperUser, it is easy to set it as the default login once you are there.

Changing to it on early O2 boxes normally failed on the first attempt but succeeded on the second try. I've no idea whether or not that has been fixed.

Went to a live online ahem "guru ! "" who was no help whatsoever.

if I disconnect my box II and connect up box v , I then wont have an online browser with which to enter the default gateway to take me to the o2 router page to enter the details to get online with box v, how do i get around this issue ?

Great - until people lose the cards, still you can see it in the GUI.

It was always on the base of the older boxes as WEP (64bit) or WPA PSK followed by the key.

Plug it in and it will work, there is nothing to type in (as nredwood has already told you).

It could take up to about half an hour to obtain an IP address but not always.

If you want or need to play about with wireless settings it should be the same as the models listed here:

http://www.o2help.co.uk/router-wpa-security/

Expect the GUI to look a bit different though.
