o2 browsing just terrible

[link to this post]

Nearly 2 months ago getting to many websites became next to impossible to load. Some were impossible. Then it got better, then from time to time it was not good.

In the last 6 days or so it is just spectacularly terrible. Even websites that loaded fine even during all the previous problems are slow at best at loading.

I'm surprised there are no posts about it, here, but maybe that is because the issue is with Be and the posts are there.

I had been prepared to stick it out with o2, and allow them (Be) to fix the problems. But.... well, the advantage of the retention discount had ended and it is only really the mobile discount that keeps me. But the thread is thin.

There have been plenty of network type problem over the last few months with BE Retail / O2 LLU and it is likely this has been what you have been suffering from

The ones known about and not resolved are

BE > Akamai link congested affecting IPlayer streaming and other streaming sites
Packet loss via telefonica-wholesale.net affecting WoW and other gaming

More recently, on 19/4 a new network issue which remains unsolved

There was also a fibre break the week before last and before more issues with BE > LINX, BE > BBC and DNS server problems

Since last Friday (19th April) I to have been suffering very slow page load-up from
allot of sites that normally load-up within seconds. Rebooted router but problem remains.

I wonder if it's a problem in specific areas that connect to the O2 network, I'm just north of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne

I'm other end of England to you (well, north Surrey/south London area, near Kent county border) so not area specific AFAIK.

I am suffering from the slow/no loading of websites too and presume this is due to network issues-completely impossible to access some internet banking sites in particular.
Additionally I was losing internet access completely many times a day, and last night the router was disconnected 70 times, which I presume is a separate issue (line/exchange fault)
Surprisingly I managed to get through to O2 CS today with no wait and the very helpful bloke in N Ireland has put me on some sort of 24 hour test, given me a month free and promises the problem will be sorted out soon.(He also tried to flog me a year long contract to replace my existing legacy one but in the circumstances seems unwise to say the least!)
Sounds like the O2 of old.....but we will have to see if it gets sorted. Either way, though, a more positive experience of O2 than of late.
In general though O2/Be really seem to be going down the tubes-maybe time for a change of ISP.

The problem at least in some part seems to be with one of BE's core / edge routers

I also believe there is a problem with BE > telefonica-wholesale.net and vice versa

Banking seems particularly bad, and mine is impossible to get to. You'd have thought there's be some priority there, but I don't know how these things work.

Hmm that would be useful. Will try tomorrow - prob too late now.

Give it a go, although the CS guy didn't seem to want to discuss the network breakdown and concentrated on the possible problem with the phone line/exchange so they may be unable to help if it's the network stuff that's spoiling your access.
He was very sympathetic and said if it wasn't fixed promptly i'll be in line for some more freebies...including the er great offer of a 1 year contract......
Their phone number is 0800 230 0202 and apparently available until 11pm on weekdays-don't know about Sunday.
