There was a period a while back, before the new packages, when with mobile phone discount, three months free, and cashback from TopCashBack/Quidco that new customers were paid for the first year!

A few of us also did 3-monthly upgrades/downgrades between Standard and Premium, as those got three months free as well. Just had to make sure you didn't forget to downgrade at the right time.

Also on the six month free here. I was long out of contract but just said I was considering switching to FTTC and asked what there plans were. First guy I got didnt offer anything, so I 'accidently' got disconnected before giving my details. Second guy knew what the score was so I got the deal.

My advice is that if you want the speed then it might be time to go, otherwise stick with legacy, it's still a cracking deal.

Thanks for all the posts everyone, it's been a real eye opener reading them, I've been out of contract for...I don't know...maybe 18 months paying about £30 a month with any time calls as well!

I have to say though the service has been absolutely fantastic, the only time I've ever had a problem it was sorted within 12 hours by 2nd line support.

My speed is around 10Mbps down / 1Mbps up with a ping of around 40.

It's OK but I'm downloading more than I used to and FTTC is now available in my area so I'm really torn.

The customer service and reliability of O2 or the speed and stepping into the unknown with BT *shudder* or Sky.

If only O2 did FTTC that would be absolutely perfect!

Uh uh smile !

The customer got 3 months free, then take off mobile phone discount, and the cashback was greater than the customer paid in monthly charges for the first year. IIRC the cust ended up £30 in pocket.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't! I've only had one hiccup in several years with O2, and that was fixed quickly and well. I'm now back to a totally solid service- ping 25/download 6.8 upload 1.2 Mbps..unlim downloads..for £9.50 a month on a legacy contract.I've checked the opposition and it's difficult (impossible) to match as far as I can see.
