Question: easy to move broadband and home phone elsewhere?

[link to this post]

I am looking to move my all rounder package and home phone line from O2 to elsewhere.

Is it easy to do or are there pitfalls?

Thanks

The migration should be seemless with min downtime i.e. 30 mins to an hour.

Current ISP: TitanADSL via 80/20 Fibre optic broadband - 100GB peak Unlimited off peak

Thanks

Does it make any difference that BT Retail owned the line which has been taken over my O2.

I remember reading that it can go wrong going back to BT? eg losing the telephone number.

O2 line rental uses BT Wholesale so the procedure is just a billing switch, i.e. no engineer required. Your number won't change.

Things can be more complicated (but usually go ok) when switching line rental to Sky or TalkTalk as they operate their own phone networks.

OK Oliver.

Thanks for the info.

That probably explains why it can take 90 days for unbilled calls to appear on a bill as BT drag their feet?

Is it best to first transfer the line over to the new provider and then the broadband later?

If you are moving line rental and broadband to BT, just sign up to one of their "all in one" packages.

Will it make any difference if I opt for the BT infinity deals once it comes to my area?

Is FTTC provisioned the same way as normal broadband so you just have a router at the end of the line and it basically works the same as O2 broadband does? There is no extra registration required or anything like that?

Thanks

No.

It's a bit different for fibre, an engineer comes to your house, modifies your master socket and plugs in a modem. You then plug a router in to the modem and off you go.
