Best time to request MAC?

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I'm 3 months out of contract on the legacy unlimited Pro package and am looking to move to Sky or BT now that FTTC is available on my cabinet, however I was looking for some advice as to the best date to call O2 and request the MAC.

My billing date is the 26th of each month (D/D payment being taken around the 15th of the following month), so am I best to call on the 26th June to request the MAC? I figure that way the notice period will coincide exactly with the 30 days in June and I won't have to worry about any part-month payments or refunds.

Or would it be best to just call straight away and then place the new order as soon as I've received the MAC? I also don't know if the (new?) 7-day penalty charge of £15.32 will apply as I'm on a legacy package, does anyone have any experience of this?

Any and all advice gratefully received, I've done a good bit of searching the forums but haven't been able to come to a conclusive answer. smile

It doesn't matter as long as it's at least 7 days before you migrate to new ISP.
7.7. If you.re leaving home broadband, we‟ll give you a MAC code. Or you can call and tell us the date you want to leave us, as you.re not keeping broadband (or you.re going to cable). You‟ll be charged until your broadband is connected to your new supplier, or until your service with us ends. Make sure you give us 7 days notice to avoid any additional charges.
It follows that you either wait 7 days before giving it to new ISP or give it to new ISP immediately and hope/know they are going to take at least 7 days, or some intermediate position.

When I move, I tell the old ISP I have left, once I am running with the new one.

Thanks for the advice guys, I guess I'll probably call them tomorrow for my MAC and then give it a week before signing up with Sky (looks a better deal than BT). smile
