superFAST public internet access?

[link to this post]

I need to upload 22GB of files for my business. Is there anywhere in London that offers a service such as this? Such as a fast upload connection? Superjanet business centre somewhere that I can pay £15 an hour to use or something?

I'm at a bit of a loss here!

Thanks

Sorry, I should have mentioned I've tried that option, the CDN I'm uploading to doesn't accept post. I'm left with searching for a superJANET connection or some fast upload connection somewhere.

That will depend on your location from where you plan to do your uploads.

JANET is primarily a backhaul network designed for connecting various academic institutions and universities in the UK and is basically its own independent network. I don't think it is possible to access it from outside these institutions but I might be wrong.

Your required high upload bandwidth capacity typically is only doable with a leased line or at least a faster SDSL. Metro net might be another option, too.

Find someone in a London DC that'll allow you to use their facilities temporarily - have a look at webhostchat.co.uk

JANET does have commercial traffic these days (we're on it, and not remotely a university although the building we're in is university owned). That amount of data is not going to be cheap though, and you can't just walk in and use it - they'll want annual contracts.

For that amount of data rent space in a datacentre.. a 2U rack isn't *that* expensive and you can get a machine capable of transferring that much data... it's also there for the next time you need it. Should be able to get something sorted for a couple of hundred quid a month plus cost of hardware.

They want data for 22GB?? That's nuts. Sure you can't get it onto a tape? Most DCs will accept tape backups of stuff - it's a common way of transferring large amounts of data.

Bit clumsy - but you could stick it on a 1U server and co-locate for a month with rapidswitch or similiar - which would cost under £40 - you'd then have to remote access the server and upload - at 100Mbit laugh

Not ideal... you might want to approach rapidswitch direct to see if they would upload the data for you - they have walk in facilities primarily for server maintenance but they have often been flexible - but they'd prolly want you to pay the walk in fee which I think was about £60.
