In reply to a post by Anonymous: Try using your telephone number.
FAO I live (without giving too much away) just off Hilbeck Grove.
Plusnet have arranged my installation for next Friday and have sent the router today, I will update you as things happen.

I recently checked my line at http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
and no sign of FTTP. However, I tried my neighbours number and they CAN receive it. My house is physically joined to my neighbour (mine's an end of terrace).
Any idea why my neighbour can get FTTP and I can't? I was on the FTTP trial back in 2003/04 so I don't understand why I can't get FTTP now?
I am in Pettingew Close, Walnut Tree btw.

Hi jonnywishbone,
I contacted plusnet about joining the trial on 9th August, and this was the response i got :-
Thank you for your inquiry.
Unfortunately we are not running the FTTP trial in your area at the moment. We do run occasional trials and if a trial becomes available in your area we will inform you.
For more information you can contact us on 0845 1400 200.

Rather odd considering that there are apparently still places left for the trial and I live on Kents Hill which has an RFS date of the end of August?

Stevejh: I phoned Plusnet last night on: 01142695198 which is their sales number, I spoke to a lady called Olivia who said they've not had any training on FTTP so this is why no one previously could help me but she personally spoke with Dave Tomlinson the man managing the FTTP trial for them and he told her about it and since then she's been getting all the calls regarding the trials. I'm in Kents Hill (MK7 6**) and she checked and said this is one of the listed areas so all I need to do is switch to them and can get setup within 2 - 3 weeks from raising the ticket with Dave as long as the area is switched on when it's supposed to at the end of this month as you correctly state.
I've now gotta wait for Sky to issue my MAC code so I can switch so gonna probably be a long 4 - 6 week wait for me by the time the switch is made and then everything processed. Can't wait to get high speed file sharing going on! Will be HD everything from then on lol

After some searching, it seems FTTP is distance dependent just like ADSL.
I'm still confused how I was able to take part in the fibre trials in 2003/04 though.
Does this mean I'm stuck on 1.5mb for eternity yet everyone around me gets up to 100mb?
Can anyone suggest what I should do next? Apart from move house that is....

What confuses me though, is how I had FTTP when they ran trials in 2003/04. How could I get it then, but not now? It was only 10mb back then, but that's still several times better than now.
And why oh why must it be my cable that goes to Bristol before it reaches my exchange? Is there anything that can be done about that? It just seems so ludicrous that my neighbours (both sides) will get up to 100mb, yet I won't.

Give me a challenge, a typical download for example and I will time it!!!
But to give you an example I downloaded 50gb on bittorrent overnight, sorry I cannot be more precise. It seems that the only restriction to my speed is how fast the other end is uploading.
Speedtest.net is consistent at 90mbs down give or take a meg or two (god it feels good to say that) and 10mbs up even when downloading and playing on xboxlive.

why would you not be able to get it ? as it would be a complete new install what exists at the moment is irrelevant.
