STCFORD work has started

[link to this post]

Since no-one's mentioned it ... my son noticed BT were hanging around this week, and today I noticed them out in the road so popped out for a chat, hoping that it related to the fibre deployment on Chandler's Ford (STCFORD) which had been announced earlier in the year.

I'm in Knightwood park and got a chance to briefly chat to one of the Openreach guys.

They're pulling in new fibre from the exchange it seems, to go to new DSLAM cabinets which will be installed in the area over around the next four weeks.

It sounded as if the whole area/system will be operational by around mid August.

So this will give us FTTC at up to 40 Mbps downstream / 10 Mbps uptime... time to start looking out for ISPs as BT Broadband is not my cup of tea.

For our area this is a significant 8x boost from 5/1 which is about the fastest one can get at ~4.7km distance, but for those close to the exchange it's no such a big improvement. Shame it's not "proper" FTTH at potential Gbps speeds

Congratulations, I see my DSLAM shell got fitted today grin. I think the 4 weeks the OR bod stated is very hopeful.

Thought I'd update this thread to say the service become orderable from BT retail in mid Dec. Go-live date was showing as 31 Dec. I ordered early Jan (1/2/3 - a blur) and my activation is 18 Jan

So about 6 months from start of work to live. longer than I thought

co-incidentally I posted earlier -- did end up going with BT -- as you mentioned, nothing comes close in terms of price/value yet.

The original post was 7-8 months ago -- since then my local cab has been enabled, and I have service -- though I know many in the area are still waiting
