A couple of times I've noticed this happen now.
Here I am, torrenting (legally!) at the stupid capped 30KBps through the day, 'unlimited' only between midnight and 8AM.
When, all of a sudden, my connection drops! When the connection comes back several minutes later, the port I was using for torrenting has mysteriously become stealthed. I change the port number in my client and in my router, and everything starts working again. But the old port number still won't work.
So, what do you think. Are Pipex deliberately stopping torrents? Or are they noticing a large amount of traffic coming from one port, and blocking it, to stop infected zombie machines churning out tons of spam email?

Just use utorrent and tick the use random port box in the settings and ensure unpnp is enabled to get round that latest brain dead scheme of theirs. Honestly if these bozos had 2 brain cells to rub together they would be dangerous.

I think the actual reason is not that they want to stop torrents, but the plonkers that have come in from tiscali have not studied how the network is setup, nor have any idea about how traffic management works. Traffic management has been faulty for a while now, and they seem to have no inclination to fix it. Hence why one day youtube rockets along, the next day it does not load, the next day usenet works at full speed, and the next it works at 20KB/s. Because they will be transitioning to tiscali soon, dont expect them to fix it in the time being.

I'm not only getting torrent services failing but gaming services (VC POKER) and now USENET is suffering.
I did an interesting test - I have VC Poker on my laptop and so I tried logging in on the Broadband connection and it fails at most times of the day. I switched WI-FI off and then used a standard 56K dialup connection (You can use your ADSL username and password to access the old PIPEX Dial service) and then tried. Guess what? Works beautifully 100% of the time.
It seems to start at around 3pm - 4pm everyday.
I feel a call to SKY coming on...... (My Dad shifted from PIPEX to SKY and he's had no problems since)
It will be a shame if I leave PIPEX as a) I've been using PIPEX for internet services since 1995 and b) it's my last connection with the company I put so many years of my life into.... but if the dog is dying, shoot the [censored].

Hi Barny
There's nothing from the past to now be loyal to and it's purely a matter of time before the WGC offices cease to exist.
You know, better than most, the work that went into making Pipex a once respected name but that was 2 sales ago

To be honest, we knew the ship was going to start sinking very early on. David Rickards was going to stay for 2 years after the original sale - he went in 6 months citing, well I can't say what he cited as it was not complimentary.
I was going to stay for 2 years and then handed in my resignation after 6 months. They had to bribe me to stay for the 2 years - nice bribe but it sad to watch the world crumble.
Looks like the last vestiges of ANY respect PIPEX had have now sunk beneath the waves. You know about a year ago when the share prices plummetted, I half expected David to come swooping in, buy up the company for a pittance and the rebuild - but we can all dream eh?

I remember seeing you calendar, beside your desk, with the days counting down, Barny - reminded me of 50 years before when I was nearing the end of my National Service.
Sadly I have to agree that the name PIPEX no longer commands the slightest respect

Nice to see the "same old, same old" with Pipex. Glad I moved to Newnet (no traffic shaping or port blocking here).

Newnet and proud of it.
