Pipex- reduced price

[link to this post]

I phoned Pipex last night to cancel and obtain a MAC code so I could switch to O2 for £7.50 pm and they offered to reduce my monthly cost from £14.99 to £7.99 keeping the same plan (8mb unlimted) and first 3 months free. I've never had a problem with my service from Pipex over the last 6 years so decided to take the new deal. Was surprised they offered a much improved deal as a friend the week before made the switch to O2 and weren't offered any discount to stay with Pipex.

You are perhaps fortunate that you are attached to an exchange where there are LLU operators. Pipex now want £19.99 p/m from me and would rather provide a MAC code than reduce the price! (assuming that I don't want to route phone calls via them).

I am trying to take advantage of a BT offer of £9.99 p/m with 10GB limit, for ex Tiscali customers, but my order has got stuck in the 'Special price approval' department.

The Pipex we knew, at loved, ceased to exist at least 5 years ago frown

Since then it's been owned by GX Comms ( who rebranded as Pipex Comms), Tiscali and now TalkTalk.

Boy am I glad I migrated as soon as the pending sale to Tiscali was announced - that was really a Friday 13th.

Try here: www.bt.com/tiscalioffer or 0800 345 7423 quoting "T999". Others have successfully used it.

Had the letter just after Christmas and phoned to see what was going on, customer support confirmed the changes and as I didn't want the phone service (all provided through the TalkTalk network - my ip address is now registered as a TalkTalk one) I would need to pay £19.99.

Did some research and found that as they are major changes to my contract (only renewed for 12months @ £14.99p/m in Sept 09) I could leave without penalty. This was confirmed by the Pipex Support people.

Have now got MAC and leaving soon to Plusnet. BUT in an online chat to Plusnet sales team I found that as a Pipex subscriber I DO NOT qualify for the three months free offer that is ONLY for Tiscali people.

The Pipex support team have been very good in dealing with this, no pressure to stay etc, they did offer a credit on my account to mitigate the price rise but only to take new 18 month contract.

Never had any real problem with Pipex, but since Christmas evening speeds have very slow and youtube/iplayer is an absolute no-no!

I have had the letter offering me 8mb and all phone calls bar mobile for £18.98 a month.

I currently pay £9.99 a month for the same package (albiet an unenforced 2GB limit)

So I shall ring up tommorrow to haggle it down or look elsewhere.

(I signed my parents up on the same deal, they are going to be upset !!)
