[link to this post]

i just asked for my mac code

but wondering now as ive read places i should send them a letter to confrm i am leaving

just to cover myself i did ask pipex and they said no everything was done

but they also said that i shouldnt stop my direct debit and wait for my final bill but i pointed out i was a month ahead in payment so why not and as ive already paid for march i will stop my direct debit today

also if i should anyone know where to send it as i have no idea

and a tip on the content of the letter would be useful

thx

i only asked to move after they asked for a 33% increase for a service which delivers 0.3 megs from 3:30pm to 11:00pm

i was also told my line can only get 2 megs and i pointed out at 9 that morning i was downloading at 4 megs she went quiet

Tell them you've left and to send you a final bill, which you will pay by cheque or bank transfer -- cancel the Direct Debit, it's not worth the risk of them "accidentally" overcharging you, or not closing it themselves! And if you've already paid a month in advance, their final bill should be quite small. Don't let Pipex try to take charge of how you pay them, this forum is littered with stories of those who were done over! Not many recently, I admit, but that's because hardly anyone's still with them (even the stalwart Nadger left after they got bought by Tiscali)!

I would certainly notify Pipex when you've migrated as you can't rely on them having been told by BTw. I did it by email but a lot do so by letter.

Tell them that you've migrated, stopped DD and will pay any money outstanding by one of two methods.

I'd certainly stop your DD so that more money can't be taken from your account. Equally I wouldn't supply them with any card details if you owe them any money for balance of 30 day notice.

When I left them, 31 months ago, I gave them a choice of transfer or cheque and they accepted transfer.

Given that things can go wrong with Pipex, the safest and most secure method would be to:

1. send them a letter (via recorded delivery) informing them of your request for mac and giving them notice.

2. A few days after you have migrated, send another letter (via recorded delivery) confirming migration and account closure.

Ask for any final bill to be remitted to you via mail for cheque payment that way you can safely cancel your dd and none of your actions can be misinterpreted in any way.

This is the template that I used having left Pipex some years ago and which I still use with any isp migration nowadays.

Good luck

I certainly had no problems using method I described - problem today would be where to send the letters.

The main point is to notify them of ones actions and not rely on others.

I went with the template letter idea and cancelled the DD.....

Someone rang the next day asking me not stop DD as there may be a refund due.

Some chance - then he asked if I would care to give my date of Birth for the Data Base

He was told in no uncertain terms that I was finished with Pipex and was waiting for final bill (1 months payment)

Today another call this time from Talk Talk. Told me the MAC hadn't yet been used and there were some good deals on offer if I should return.Told him the MAC had been employed and Bye Bye..

Now Im with Plusnet and suffering dead slow download 1 Mb from 3 Mb with Pipex.

Did I do the right thing - I now wonder
