Speed Increase

[link to this post]

Generally my speeds have be as thus:

My Broadband Speed Test

My Broadband Speed Test

I have 20 or so other similar results in between the two dates shown. It's roughtly a 200bps increase, which isn't massive, but it is constant. I tried a 0.5Gb speedtest using TBB Meter and pretty much got the same if not better. Just for fun, I tried one of Zen's 100MB files and got 822kB which is 6576...I'm sure I haven't worked in the 1024 vs 1000 thing, but speeds are definitely improving of late. For a while my speeds were up at 6350, then down to 6250 and now are up to 6550. Pings are good too. Mid 20s as opposed to high 20s. Is there more capacity, or have I found the 'happy server'?

Early this morning I got:

My Broadband Speed Test

Naturally I assumed it was due to the time of day, so I just took another go:

My Broadband Speed Test

Interesting. What's happened on Plusnet's systems in the last week or so?

A lump of MSIL capacity been added I would guess.

Or you have picked up a 500kbps IP Profile gain from somewhere.

(tbb Speed tests work on 1Mb = 1024Kb. I always prefer to copy/paste from the table of results - I really dislike one decimal place of Mbps).

No change in profile. Was 8128/7150 and remains so.

I wonder if ISPs' FTTx infrastructure changes will create less congestion for others in the long term.

Hi smile

It'll be down to this. Basically we made some routing changes and completed the move of everyone over to the new network we talked about here.

The above post has been made by an ISP REPRESENTATIVE (although not necessarily the ISP being discussed in the post).

So there you go, Mand says you will have moved to an MSIL instead of a Central. (WBC or IPSC host link).

Ta very much Mand. Looks like it happened on the 14th.

My Broadband Ping

Small drop in min latency and small increase in speeds. Still sitting at 6.4 (6550 ish). I have noticed over the past two years that speeds have slowly increased (from 6.0 to 6.2). I tend to keep the fastest 25 speedtests in my profile. The oldest one is dated October 2010, so there's a definite sign of progress.

Now then. How to get that last 600kbps without changing location. wink

Camieabz, I had a similar, but even faster, experience which was discussed here:

Wish I had an increase. My download speed has stayed fairly constant but my upload speed has dropped over the last week or so:
