1.9 Billion errors!

[link to this post]

My parents' line was upgraded to 21C WBC last Wed so they are on day 7 of their training period. My line was done the Monday before and I have had 14meg ever since with attenuation of 29.5.

My parents however, have an attenuatrion of 20 and are barely getting 10 meg. They have also had 1.9 Billion errors on line in the past 4 days as the stats below show.

Sync speed (up/Down) 444/11978
Attrenuation: 7/20
SN 29.5/4.5
Loss of signal: 2/0
errored secs: 65,605/0
FEC errors (up/down): 640,989/1,936,455,172
CRC Errors (up/down): 5,119/61,951

Amnyone know what the reason could be for th elow sync rate and huuuge amount of errors?

Hi Jim

I've tried several new Filters but not the master socket. I can't see what trying the master socket will proove in this case as the line was perfect up until the day of the switch-over from ADSL to ADSL2+.

There were no errors at all and they were constantly sync'd at 8128.

Turn everything off and unplug every cable into the router, including the phone line and power. Leave five minutes, securely reconnect everything, and try see what happens.

Have you tried a different router?

If a similar sync, and the error rate continues, it could be a coincidence at their end, or the router can't cope, (was it OK for the first 3 days and what did they get?), or a faulty connection at the exchange.

Could be the line card in the MSAN, could be dodgy jumpering.

10-day period completely irrelevant. Scream! Unless it is their end as above.

And try the old router smile.

It is most likely at the exchange, but a single fractionally loose wire at home could cause it. Amazing the garbage you could print in the days of Centronics interface printers if the huge plug was just slightly squiffy in the socket.

Wires broken but the ends still touching within a cable is another thing to watch out for.

Hi WelshWArrior,

Sorry to hear it's been giving trouble, did the testing over the weekend show anything up? Let us know if there's anything we can look into for you.

EDIT: Just seen your other thread and picked up the ticket number there, thanks for that smile I'll update you shortly.

My TG585v8 always shows massive error figures but connection is stable - current uptime over 30 days.

Hi Matt - cheers for the help so far.

Yep - got to the bottom of it. Testing through the Master Socket and they we able to sync at 19meg (which is what I was expecting for them).

Looking into the socket behind the Master Socket, there's an extra Bell of some sort wired in and fixed to the wall beside the phone socket. I'll remove that and see what happens then.

I'll keep you posted!

They will tell you they can't hear the phone ring.
