[SOLVED] Is Plusnet e-mail working for everyone?

[link to this post]

A client has had repeated instances of the e-mail authentication box popping up (the username, password, e-mail server box). Windows Mail btw.

I checked my own e-mails (MS Outlook). Fine, but within two-three minutes I too got a popup box, which went away and my e-mail are fine.

The client has rebooted router and PC, and her browser is working, so it seems to be e-mail specific.

Anyone else getting this, or are the PN reps aware of any authentication issues?

I have had intermittent authentication(???) issues this morning, but NOT specific to e-mail.

Every so often, it tells me no broadband is found! Tried powering the router down for a good while, and rebooting, in an attempt to get a different gateway, but it hasn't cured the problem.

So far still only intermittent - a few moments at a time.

Might be purely coincidental, and specific to my line. But I certainly have the impression something's up today.

Nothing we're aware of at the moment, I've asked the team and they haven't seen anything so far. No issues on my IMAP account either.

Problem solved. Local issue.

It appears that somehow a rogue account had been created within the mail client. Being remote, and the client being very non-savvy, it took a little investigation. Something like:

mail account
mail account(1)
microsoft communities

The mail account(1) had no authentication details, but was trying to connect. Deletion of said account fixed everything. Sorry to bother you all. To give you an idea of the non-savvy nature of the user, I was 35 minutes on the phone talking them through a Windows mail export and file backup (the file backup took around 45 seconds). The client is just not familiar with windows file/folder navigation.

A selection of sentences that crept up:

"Please don't close that folder unless I ask you to do so."

"Please leave Windows Mail open, unless I say otherwise."

"Windows Mail...is that my e-mail then?"

"What's a path?"

Grr, grr. wink

Ah well, evidently had nothing to do with my issue.

Which, however, has not recurred since I posted about it. wink

As an aside, favourite fault description from a user (I'm sure I've posted this before):

"My world has stopped turning, but I've still got my handbag!"

This turned out to mean: "Internet explorer has stopped working" (when it used to have a turning globe), "but my VPN connection is still up" (user had mistaken the little padlock icon for a handbag).
