I am totally disgusted....

I am totally disgusted with Plusnet, I have been a customer for 2 years and I changed from broadband to fibre, they want £96.00 if I cancel my account so I can go to another ISP.

Do the words "18 month contract" ring any bells?

Sorry to hear this has shocked you, however as Kasg states our Fibre plans come with an 18 month contract. You can find more info about this here: http://www.plus.net/residential/faqs.shtml#contractS...

To get a £96 cancellation charge would mean you're cancelling with your first month of Fibre? Are you having problems with the service that we can help resolve?

I was aware of what I was originally signing up for... but I did not think\know that i was signing a new contract.

When I transferred from Plusnet ADSL to Fibre it was made clear at every stage that I was entering into a new 18-month contract so I don't know why that apparently didn't happen in your case. In fact I had assumed that meant that I would be liable for the full balance of 18 months' subscriptions if I chose to leave early, whereas in fact Plusnet charges a lot less than this.

Chris's reply is indicative of the level of service Plusnet normally provides, they will bend over backwards to help, even when subjected to abuse (which, incidentally, I am not accusing you of).

Signing up to a different product (ADSL to Fibre) usually comes with a new contract.

Did you sign up with your eyes closed? It's stated very clearly on the page...
