Usenet speeds

[link to this post]

Do Plusnet restrict usenet speeds? Speeds are bouncing between 0.1MB/s and 2MB/s tonight, yet doing a speed test on this website shows speeds of 70mb/s.

I've been with Plusnet for around 6 weeks now and the fastest I've been able to download from usenet is around 4MB/s, around half the speed I'm getting on speed tests.

I was with Be Broadband before Plusnet and although it was only 24mb it maxed my line out.

4MB/s is around 30Mb/s - so while still lower than your HTTP speeds, it's certainly not slow. Having said that, I'd expect it to be faster than that really. Is it always around the same speed or does it vary depending on time of day?

I found supernews reliable however speeds are quite different on usenetbucket

also SSL ports show different speeds to that of the standard port so I am guessing something is happening behind the scenes
