Hi All,

Had my line activated today and having big fluctuations in speed each time i test 40-60

Is my line going through the "Training period" ..how long before its stable?

Plusnet website reports:
Estimated line speed:
64Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2013-05-21 12:34:02
Current line speed:
78 Mb

Profile from http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
Download speedachieved during the test was - 44.74 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-77.44 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 77.44 Mbps

---------

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 16.45Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

Try downloading a test file and watch to see if your getting a consistant stream of data or not, Tbb test files

There is no 10 day training period with FTTC You start with the highest Sync that your line is capable of and it goes from there , Most lines start off stable, Have you used the speedtester on this site? As it seems to be popular

On FTTC, the line doesn't really undergo "training" in the same way as for ADSL lines.

Those test results show a downstream IP profile of 77.4Mbps, which means you are syncing at a full speed of 80Mbps.

DLM will now be monitoring your line, to decide if it working at a high-enough quality level. Unless it sees a lot of resyncs (which you'll be able to see yourself) or a very high number of errors (which you can't see), then it won't do anything at all for the next 2 days. At that point, it might choose to add interleaving & error correction - if it has seen some errors on the line.

So, for now...

Plusnet's system records a matching speed - which means they aren't limiting your speed.

You should be able to run speedtests, and get results around 73-74Mbps. Have you tried speedtest.net yet? Choosing one of the London-based servers (though I always find Vodafone in Newbury gives good results).

And are you using a wired connection, or wireless, to the router?

On my new connection, the speed goes up and down like a yo yo. I'm not worried about the lower speeds as they don't remian low.

Chaps,

Ive tried a few more tests and looks better.

Speedtest.net - Newbury - (55/16) http://www.speedtest.net/result/2743352841.png

Speedtest.net - London, Ealing - (72/18) http://www.speedtest.net/result/2743357375.png

Speedtest.net - London, Vodafone - (53/16) http://www.speedtest.net/result/2743362772.png

7 to 8.7MB/s on TBB 1Gb test file.

Some other questions please:

Do you guys also get a 20Mbps odd difference between speednet servers like the above?

TG582n is the SuperUser password the serial number? (tried and not working)

cheers

As far as I'm aware there's no SuperUser on the units we ship. The admin username and password should be detailed on the router or the card that came with it.

Getting different speeds from different ookla servers is to be expected as not all of them are on gig or 10G backhaul links.

Should give you graphs you can link to and show how stable or variable the speeds are

Ahh ok thanks - I thought it might be required to enable ping responses, but can see this is available in the GUI.
