Sudden Speed Drop

[link to this post]

I have noticed that my down throughput has dropped from the 68Mb/s I got consistently when I joined plusNet has now dropped to between 48-50Mb/s.

This corresponds to what looks like a 5 hour outage (100% packet loss according to ThinkBroadband) on the 7th September. As a member of SamKnows I can also see the graphs prior to the 7th September and after the 7th showing the speed drop. BT Wholesale checker reports I am on a 74Mb/s or 77Mb/s profile, can't remember and can't re-run the test for a while.

Problem ticket raised with PN on Saturday, waiting to hear back.

Any thoughts?

Hi there,

Feel free to reply with the ticket ID and I'll have a look assuming that still needs attention.

Hardwired the PC into the modem, 73Mb/s. Plugged into ASUS RT-N66U router 53Mb/s.

Checked every single setting on the router and the last test was to switch off URL filtering (young kids in the house that have discovered a number of "free" movie sites which need to be blocked).

Speed now sat at 71Mb/s with URL filtering switched off. Not ideal as the kids can now get to any site they like but that is a topic for another thread.

Thanks to PN support for their help as always! smile

Try OpenDNS.
