Plusnet IRC - still a farce

[link to this post]

It's been years now. Has anyone thought about ending this crazy state of affairs?

http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php?topic=7468.0

You can only connect to the IRC server from a Plusnet IP address and yet the server's list of Plusnet IP addresses is "somewhat dated." crazy

I can't think of another major ISP with such a restriction - let alone a restriction implemented so badly.

why limit to plusnet ips.

lets say eg. I join plusnet (funny enough I am considering since uk support and they run line checks on demand from forum posts).

lets say my connecion goes down.

I connect via 3g and want to hop onto irc to talk to people there, I cant from the 3g ip?

amen to that! wink

1) blocking other IPs is silly
2) failing to keep up to date lists of your own IPs is even sillier

Do Plusnet run that server? Thought it was run by the Usergroup so their call who gets to play?

Indeed, the code and IRC are run by the Usergroup. Although it may be that we haven't told them the more recent ranges.
