How do you connect to the router wired or wireless?

What is reported for your IP Profile by the BT speedtest?

Is your landline phone working?

The problem both short-term and long term could be one wire of the pair was dodgy, causing the original poor speed, and has now failed completely. If the phone doesn't work that would explain it, as broadband can run severely degraded with just one wire of the pair.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 59.4/14.4Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Sorry forgot to say Wireless connection to a Plusnet standard TG582n router.

Router states the wireless connection is running at 65 Mbps

BT Speedtest reports:

Download speed: 1.41 Mbps
Acceptable range of speeds: 40 Mbps - 69.31 Mbps

IP Profile for line is: 69.31 Mbps

What happens to the speed test if you do it wired? The IP Profile shows you are connected at approximately 71.6Mbps compared to your 55Mbps estimate.

What operating system is the computer you are using?

I'm running Mac OS 10.9.2

Thankfully a could wheel it over to where the router is, switch off the wifi and connect it wired.

Now this is a hell of a lot better. Looks like a [censored] wireless connection

Ooops!

All this time, and it's the wireless link.

I think there's been some recent stuff about Macs and wireless but I could be confused - they were talking about the Airport or something think.

The 582n isn't brilliant on wireless but used to give me over 35Mbps on a 52Mbps FTTC connection speed. I don't think it's as bad as what you are seeing, but at least now you know where the problem is smile.

I suggest a new thread about your poor wireless speeds, as the Subject of this one is now misleading. Your upstream is also bad on the wireless. Possibly in the Fibre forum rather than Plusnet, to get a wider range of readers/advice.
