Concern about my IP

[link to this post]

Can someone explain why when I check my IP on the internet or run a speed test in Speedtest.net my IP is 146.199.xx.2xx (241.xx.199.1xx.dyn.plus.net) which belongs to 146.199.55 - plus.net - United States - INFONET Services Corporation and Ipconfig is the more common 192.1xx.x.xx is this normal or is there a security violation in action here?
Some numbers I have replaced with x.

192.1xx.x.xx is the IP address that your router gives to the computers on your local area network (LAN). 146.199.xx.2xx is the IP address that PlusNet gives the wide area network (WAN) port on your router and the IP Address that is seen by the rest of the Internet for your systems. You router routes data between your LAN and the Internet through the WAN port.

I cannot answer why the IP address shows a US location.

IPv4 addresses are now exhausted so there is a trade in IP blocks. The chances are Plusnet have bought some new IP blocks recently as they are expanding and the geo lookup data hasn't been brought up to date yet.

Thanks guys for your explanations, its just that I have had some issues with browsers hijacks and have become suspicious to any change in IP addresses.
Perhaps a PlusNet rep can explain if there has been a security violation, perhaps with my router.

This is fine.

That is a Plusnet IP address. It's currently being advertised by ptw-bng02.plus.net.

You cannot see your internal IP address, the 192 address, on external sites as, well, it's internal. There are of course exceptions involving querying your local machine but a simple check on the IP address your connection came from will show your external one.

No-one is targeting you for a browser hijack, or if they are it'll be via malware on your own machine.

In future if very worried about security you may wish to censor the addresses you write more carefully as you've displayed your IP address at the time of this posting in full. It's not a big deal, it doesn't really matter in the slightest, but you seem somewhat conscious of these things.

Ignore any IP address which starts 192.168.x.x - that is your local network. If you are getting speedtest results showing that as the IP address then they are probably incorrect.

It was after a clean-up of malware on my machine after installing Driver Detective and Network and Sharing Centre taking a long time to connect to the internet that I decided to scan my machine with different scanners and eventually uninstalling Driver Detective as some of its components were being flagged by the various scanners and both IE9 and Chrome had been hijacked. Eventually doing a speed test that I noticed the change in IP address had changed from the more common 37.15x.xxx.xxx as used by PlusNet ( and not the 192.xxx.x.xx as I previously incorrectly posted) to the now 146.199.xx.xxx that I became suspicious.
I have no issues with download speeds as they are regularly in the 17.+ Mbps and always have been since joining PlusNet.
The only issue I have now is Network and Sharing Centre taking a long time to connect to the internet on start-up but that can be a Windows issue.
So thanks for your input.

And our test will most certainly not show that.
