FTP access

[link to this post]

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me with this.

I am trying to set up an FTP server on my local LAN for people on the internet to be able to access.

I run a Cisco ASA firewall as my broadband connected device, port forwarding is configured correctly.

Now the issue I have is that the ASA lets me see everything hitting the outside interface from the internet. When I FTP to my IP address I see nothing hitting the ASA, if I SSH to the address I see that hit the ASA no problem.

So I suppose my question is do PlusNet block FTP ?

I have conducted several port scans from the internet to my IP address and only ever see hits on the common ports, SSH, TELNET, HTTP, HTTPS.

If I scan for 20, 21, 25, 69 I see nothing hitting my outside interface.

I have checked my firewall settings on the members area and my Broadband firewall is off.

I have also seen while googl'ing the issue that people have enabled FTP port forwarding on their home routers to allow FTP into their LAN's from the internet so I am a bit confused as to why I do not even see the FTP attempt as I would assume the service should be there.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

regards

Rich

Have you tried changing the FTP port number?

No - it must be something you are doing wrong. I have a lan disk I can access remotely although I do tend to avoid using standard ports as they attract script kiddies.

I think your problem is due to the way ftp works. See

https://enterprisedt.com/products/edtftpjssl/doc/man...

Or google for something like 'FTP through firewall'

Ok, so problem resolved.

Config on the ASA was good with one exception, the PAT config for the FTP needed to be first in the list and above my inside LAN to Internet PAT.

Also the logging on the GUI did not show the FTP traffic hitting my outside interface, however running a capture on the CLI showed the FTP traffic. (I should know better than to use the GUI for logging)

Thanks to all those who replied.

cheers
