Yikess reminds me when I was paying £40 p/m for 512Kb with BT and that Alcatel green frog type modem.

ahhhh the bad old days.

My first ADSL ISP was Pipex in mid 2002, I ordered as soon as my exchange was enabled. It was a pretty reasonable £23.44 inc vat, which I think undercut BT by some margin. "Wires only" without an engineer visit had already been introduced by that point.
