40/2 Fibre now 40/10

[link to this post]

https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Blogs/Welcome-...
Soon we’ll start to provide faster upload speeds to our ‘up to 38Mbps’ Plusnet Unlimited Fibre customers.

We know how important it is to be able to upload content quickly, especially to social media, so we’re making improvements and raising the maximum possible upload speed for customers on this product.

At the moment, customers on this product can get upload speeds of ‘up to 1.9Mbps’ but we’re increasing that to ‘up to 9.5Mbps’, at no additional cost. Your download speed will also remain the same, but you should benefit from faster speeds when uploading photos and video to the likes of Facebook or sending emails.

New Plusnet Unlimited Fibre customers will start getting the faster upload speed from the point of sign-up, and we’ll also start to move our existing ‘up to 38Mbps’ customers to the faster upload speed from November.

It was pretty important a while back when they decided to go from the 80/20 package they were using for everyone (rate limited to 40 for customers on the lower package) to then go onto the 40/2 package. They are now just heading back towards where they were.

Based on the complaints in the Plusnet Community when 40/2 was introduced, there'll be a lot of happy people. I'm still on 40/20 although I've never managed much above 7Mbps upload anyway.

Is this because the 40/2 wholesale product is being withdrawn? I wouldn't be surprised.

Guessing the old BT package of 40/10 kept Plusnet's package at 40/2, but the new 52/10 allows Plusnet to change to 40/10.

Yes - should've been I think but it never happened to me (according to BTW Performance Test further diagnostics). I can only just manage 40 down and 7 up so as I say, it makes no difference to me.

Tested just now and I got :-

Download Speed 35.82 Mbps
45.74 Mbps Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 35.82 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 40 Mbps-45.74 Mbps .
Additional Information: IP Profile for your line is - 45.74 Mbps
Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed 6.99 Mbps
20 Mbps Max Achievable Speed"

Below acceptable according to that but good enough for my purposes. Until very recently the IP Profile was 40 Mbps. Don't know what changed.

I had very similar thoughts to camie - Plusnet are tasked with being the cheapskates alternative to BT and therefore will have lower spec. products. Now BT Retail are changing Infinity 1 it leaves space for Plusnet to move up.

You were correct in thinking you were not moved to 55/10, but remained on the slugged 80/20.

From those figures I would say that is still the case.

BT moved all 40/10s to 55/10 eighteen months ago, if their lines warranted it. I don't think that is anything to do with this PLusnet change..

I would say that with Plusnet having been positioned to fight TalkTalk, it hasn't had a chance since TT moved from 40/2 to 40/10 earlier this year. In my opinion that is a far more likely reason than what BT is doing.

BT isn't changing Infinity 1 at the moment. It seems it is upgrading selected longer-term customers to 80/20 and no price increased. Basically a voluntary same-price retention deal speed upgrade for those that can get it.

It is still selling Infinity 1 with no price change.

Are BT Wholesale withdrawing 40/2?

As I have repeatedly said, Openreach are not.

I am one of those 40/20 users who was moved to 55/10 many months ago. My line still syncs at 80/20 but the download and upload speeds are throttled by PN to 55/10. Since PN are presumably still paying OR for 80/20 I don't quite see the point. Unless OR charge PN for 55/10 but still connect at 80/20.

That's interesting. Extremely so in fact.

The only explanation that would make sense to me would be that Openreach had an offer to CPs for a while of 80/20 at a low price that would stay in force for some very long period. Which hasn't yet expired.

Ummmm. Maybe there's a more likely one. Another Plusnet cockup!

I think you could be right, about a PlusNet cock-up The 40/20 customers were all on the 80/20 product and PlusNet changed the caps to 55/10 with the intention to change the openreach product to 55/10 in due course, looks like that never happened for some customers!!

I upgraded from ADSL to fibre after I heard the news. Plusnet dmployees themselves appear to not have heard these news, because this is the service they ordered for me:

Out of these Broadband Speed rates RobertoS mentiones (above) which ones are currently Valid Products with Plusnet or to shortly be made available?

I'm to renew my PN Fibre next month and I think a 55/10 product would suit me well, yet I haven't seen it on PlusNet's site. Have I missed something or does anyone know if a 55/10 package is on the horizon for Plusnet?

Plusnet themselves don't know that. A month before this upload speed increase was announced I phoned Plusnet and asked if they were planning to do this - and they didn't know what to tell me.
PN's current offerings are 40/2 (to be upgraded to 40/10 by end of the month) and 80/20. Nothing in between.

I wanted to move to PN to get an idea of the usage and then to AAISP - but in the last week watching some of the 4K content we get on IPTV as well as streaming Sky channels we are racking up over 80GB a day. So unless that can come down it won't be possible - I might as well go back to TTB as (unlike shitenet) they don't block it every time a footy match is on!
